The practice's foundation

Honoring the Founders

Dr. Ryan Galligan and Vicki Galligan created the relationships and family-centered environment that longtime patients recognize. Both are now retired, but the foundation they built remains part of the practice's story.

Vicki Galligan

Vicki helped shape the welcoming, organized experience patients recognized from the front desk. Her warmth, institutional knowledge, and long-standing relationships with families made her central to the practice from its beginning through her retirement in 2026.

Dental Hygienist

Michele Crane, RDH

Michele brings more than 20 years of experience in dental hygiene and has cared for patients at this practice for more than seven years. For many families, she is a familiar and reassuring presence who has shared their milestones and helped them maintain healthy smiles year after year.

She has a strong commitment to preventive care and explains oral health in a way that feels approachable and easy to understand. Her gentle manner and attentive nature help patients of all ages feel comfortable during visits.

Building lasting relationships is one of the most meaningful parts of Michele's work. She values the trust patients place in her and is grateful to continue caring for families who call Scanlan Family Dentistry their dental home.

Dental Hygienist

Brittany Mize, RDH

Brittany often says she married into dentistry. Watching her husband practice and seeing the difference thoughtful care made for his patients inspired her to pursue the field herself. She earned her dental-hygiene degree and became a registered dental hygienist, bringing both skill and heart to the profession.

As a mother of four, Brittany understands the pace and priorities of family life. That perspective helps her connect naturally with parents and children while recognizing the realities of busy schedules and changing health needs.

Brittany values prevention, patient education, and clear communication. She believes patients feel more confident caring for their oral health when they understand it, and her calm presence helps make that learning feel comfortable.

Dental Assistant

Miniimah Salaam, CDA

Miniimah has been part of the practice for more than three years and brings more than 12 years of dental experience, including 10 as a certified dental assistant. She is often the steady, reassuring presence patients see during treatment.

Her calm and thoughtful manner helps both children and adults feel prepared and cared for from the moment they sit down. She genuinely enjoys connecting with patients and takes pride in helping appointments run smoothly.

Inspired by the difference preventive care can make for families, Miniimah plans to continue her education and pursue her goal of becoming a dental hygienist. Her dedication to learning and patient care makes her an important part of the team.

Patient Coordinator

Kim Duffy

Kim has been a familiar and friendly face at the practice for nearly eight years. Many patients know her voice on the phone before they walk through the door, and her welcoming presence helps set the tone for each visit.

Whether she is answering questions, helping families coordinate busy schedules, or offering reassurance, Kim approaches each interaction with patience and care. Patients often comment on how comfortable and understood they feel when speaking with her.

Kim has built meaningful relationships with many of the families who visit the practice. Her steady presence provides familiarity and continuity, and she takes pride in knowing the people behind the appointments.

Receptionist

Loren Smith

Loren joined the practice following the January 2026 ownership transition and quickly became a welcoming presence at the front desk. She enjoys getting to know patients beyond their appointments and hearing about their lives and families.

Known for her friendly and approachable nature, Loren enjoys answering questions about the practice and helping families understand how we care for children. Her patience, reassurance, and warm manner can make arriving at the dentist feel easier.

Originally from Roanoke, Virginia, Loren has called Raleigh home since 1975. She has been married for 32 years and is the mother of two and grandmother of three. Outside the office, she enjoys life on three acres with her husband, dog, cat, and flock of chickens.

Practice Operations Manager

Jesse Hall

Jesse's connection to dentistry began long before the practice became part of his family's story. He and Dr. Scanlan married while she was in dental school, and he supported her through the long nights of study by cooking meals, baking snacks, making flashcards, and helping her prepare for exams.

Today, Jesse works alongside his wife and supports the practice wherever needed so Dr. Scanlan and the clinical team can remain focused on patient care. Much of his work happens behind the scenes, though patients may occasionally see him around the office when something needs attention, improvement, or a steady hand.

Jesse and Dr. Scanlan are raising four young children in the community the practice serves. For their family, the office is part of the life they are building together, and being present, committed, and rooted in North Raleigh matters deeply to him.

Founding Dentist, Retired

Dr. Ryan Galligan

Dr. Ryan Galligan founded the practice in 2006 and proudly served families in North Raleigh, Wake Forest, and surrounding communities for many years. A native North Carolinian, he earned his undergraduate degree with honors from North Carolina State University and his dental degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.

Throughout his career, Dr. Galligan pursued advanced training in general, pediatric, and orthodontic dentistry, earning fellowship distinctions from the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Association for Orthodontics. His work remained centered on comprehensive, patient-focused care and long-term oral health for growing families.

Dr. Galligan helped establish a practice known for treating patients like family. Before retiring after seeing his final patient in August 2026, he completed ongoing treatment plans, supported a smooth transition of care, and helped ensure that the relationships and standards he established would continue under Scanlan Family Dentistry.

Practice Co-Founder, Retired

Vicki Galligan

Vicki was part of the practice from its beginning. A North Carolina native and graduate of North Carolina State University, she brought both organization and heart to the front desk and helped create a place where families felt comfortable, known, and cared for.

Vicki and Dr. Galligan raised their two children alongside the practice. During the earliest years, one unused office even served as a nursery so their babies could remain close while they worked. Their children later spent afternoons and summers around the office, making family life part of the practice culture from the start.

For generations of patients, Vicki was a familiar and reassuring presence. She scheduled her final patient appointment in April 2026 and is now enjoying retirement with Dr. Galligan, their family, friends, and the memories created during their years in the practice.
