How Scheduling Reflects Our Care

How we schedule reflects how we practice. Appointment time is reserved for the person receiving care, with enough room for the planned examination, cleaning, treatment, or conversation. We do not routinely double or triple book patients into the same appointment time.

The most helpful first step is to tell the care team whether you need routine preventive care, have an urgent concern, want to discuss a particular treatment, or hope to coordinate visits for multiple family members. That information helps us offer the right appointment rather than asking you to diagnose the problem yourself.

What matters

Tell Us What You Need

The right starting point depends on the person, concern, available records, and purpose of the visit.

Routine New-Patient Care

Request a comprehensive first visit when you want to establish care, update X-rays, receive an appropriate cleaning, and meet Dr. Scanlan.

Urgent Dental Concerns

Call promptly for pain, swelling, trauma, or a broken tooth. New patients with urgent concerns are offered an appointment within two business days whenever the practice is the appropriate setting for care.

Restorative Treatment

Existing patients scheduling a planned filling, crown, bridge, denture, or other treatment receive the time specified in their treatment plan.

Cosmetic or Invisalign Consultation

Tell us what you would like to change so the team can reserve the appropriate consultation and explain any records that may be needed.

Family Scheduling

We coordinate same-day appointments for related family members when the schedule allows. Larger blocks may require a deposit under the current financial policy.

Existing-Patient Changes

Call the office to cancel, reschedule, report a new symptom, or ask whether an existing appointment type needs to change.

A clear sequence

How to Request and Confirm a Visit

Each step is explained before you are asked to move forward.

1) Call, Email, or Submit a Request

Call (919) 977-1870 for the fastest help, email info@scanlanfamilydentistry.com through the practice's protected email system, or submit the website request form without medical history, dental records, insurance details, or other protected health information.

2) Describe the Visit You Need

Tell us whether the visit is routine, urgent, treatment-related, cosmetic, for a child, or being coordinated with other family members.

3) Review Available Appointment Times

The care team compares the needed appointment length with current availability and discusses suitable options.

4) Receive Confirmation from the Office

A website form or email is only a request. The appointment is confirmed after our care team contacts you and agrees on the date, time, and visit type.

5) Prepare for the Reserved Visit

Complete requested forms, arrange record transfer, and review any financial or pre-appointment instructions before you arrive.

Important context

Reserved Time and Appointment Policies

Because your treatment room and care-team time are reserved specifically for you, the current financial policy requests at least 24 business hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling. A fee may apply when adequate notice is not provided.

Deposits may be required for certain extended appointments, periodontal deep cleaning, or larger same-day family groups. Review the current General Dental Financial Policy for the complete terms that apply to reserved time.

What to Bring or Review

Use the links and preparation details that apply to your care.

Complete Requested Forms

Use the Patient Forms page to download the registration form and policies that apply to your visit.

Plan to Arrive Prepared

Bring completed paperwork and arrive at the time provided by the care team so check-in does not reduce reserved clinical time.

Arrange Requested Records

Transfer useful recent X-rays or treatment information when the care team asks for them.

Call When Something Changes

Report new pain, swelling, illness, medication changes, or another concern that could affect the planned visit.

Useful answers

Scheduling Questions

Does the website form confirm an appointment?

No. The form submits a request. Your appointment is confirmed only after the care team responds and agrees on the date, time, and visit type. Review the complete scheduling process.

Can you schedule several family members together?

Often, yes. We coordinate family appointments when the schedule allows. Larger same-day groups may require a deposit under the current financial policy.

How much notice is required to change an appointment?

The current policy requests at least 24 business hours' notice. Review the General Dental Financial Policy for the cancellation fee and complete terms.

Do you offer same-day emergency appointments?

Call as soon as possible. The team will try to accommodate same-day care when the schedule and clinical need allow. New urgent patients are offered an appropriate appointment within two business days whenever possible. See when dental care may be urgent.

Can I request a particular hygienist or time of day?

You may share the preference when you call or text (919) 977-1870 to schedule. Availability depends on the schedule, visit type, and amount of time required.

What are the regular office hours?

The office is open Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch-hour appointments available on Thursdays. The office is closed Friday through Sunday. Learn about Thursday lunch-hour appointments.
